About Tim Wu

Tim Wu is from the province of Fujian (population 45 million, 2009) in southeastern China.   He was born in the Fujian province’s capital city, Fuzhou, raised in a family whose business was in traditional Chinese medicine for four generations, combining the medicine systems from Taoist and Buddhist (South Shaolin Temple) practices.

Since the early 1900’s, Wu’s great-grandfather, an imperial palace physician of the end of the Qing Dynasty, provided traditional Chinese medicine treatments – acupuncture, Qi Gong therapy, massage and herbal medicine. He treated chronic illnesses from a clinic, Ancestral Chinese Medical Therapy, in China which was later operated by Wu’s grandfather and uncle.  From this upbringing, Tim Wu was immersed in the numerous ways of Chinese medicine and learned exclusive techniques in Qi Gong therapy, massage, acupuncture and herbal medicine passed on from generations.

To continue the family tradition and practice, Tim Wu studied traditional Chinese medicine at the local university, Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Fuzhou.  Fujian University is one of only 33 universities specializing in Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.  For a period of 8 years, from 1979 – 1987, he studied at the University graduating with a Masters Degree specializing in massage therapy.

Upon graduation in 1987 until 1990, Tim Wu interned at one of the University’s affiliated hospitals.  There he provided different types of massage therapy to approximately 50 patients per week.  After his internship at the hospital, he practiced at his family’s clinic providing acupuncture, massage, Qi Gong and herbal medicine until 1993.  The Ancestral Chinese Medical Therapy clinic was very busy with approximately 100 patients treated each day.

In 1993, Tim Wu decided to move to Seattle, Washington USA and established a Traditional Chinese Medicine practice, Chinese Medical Therapy.  For 14 years (1993 – 2007), he continued to practice and offer traditional and unique Chinese medicine treatments – massage, herbal medicine and Qigong therapy – continuing the family tradition. Tim Wu provided general and specific treatments for a variety of ailments such as muscular and skeletal pain and more.

Tim Wu came to Canada in 2008. He named his business Unique Therapy because of his family’s extensive experience and exclusive treatments.  He continues to provide Chinese ancient therapy and his special therapy that combine the techniques from Taoist medicine and South Shaolin Temple in his unique Qigong therapy as well as teaching Qigong.
